The Null Device

In the wake of mp3.com's crushing defeat and possible bankrupcy, I have been having a look around for other sites to host my musical projects. The verdict is mostly disheartening; mp3.com.au did not render in Netscape (perhaps it works only in Internet Exploiter?), riffage.com's download feature didn't work (it kept reporting a JavaScript error; again, possibly MSIE chauvinism), and UK contender peoplesound.com required registration to be completed by postal mail, though they are saying they will allow online registrations soon. Streaming from Riffage and PeopleSound is also in RealAudio, which for some reason didn't work for me. IUMA also uses RealAudio for streaming, but has hassle-free mp3 downloads that work.

Anyway, IUMA has emerged as the winner (and, indeed, surviving contender). As their agreement did not say anything about not putting material on both IUMA and mp3.com, I have started uploading the vmunix material to IUMA.
