The Null Device

An Australian company claims to have created a program which automatically detects pornographic images, by looking for "excessive skin tones". Wonder how well it works and how many false alarms it gets. Anyway, maybe in a few years, someone will develop an Artificial Morality module, which simulates the sensibilities of, say, a Liberal Party frontbencher or Fred Nile*, taking as input an image and emitting an "outrage value" to a monitoring program which, if the result crosses a specified outrage threshold, cuts the connection/alerts the administrator. Perhaps these will end up embedded in a chip and, by government mandate, installed in every DVD player sold in Australia.
* An Australian religious-right politician, who makes our illustrious PM look like a liberal humanist.
