I just received the most recent Wicked Beat Sound System CD, Inna Styles in the mail (it was a promotional copy, sent as a bonus to subscribers to local music-gear magazine NextMusic). I'm pleased to report it's quite good; alternating between laid-back breakbeat grooves and soul/funk songs (think Mantronix or somesuch, not top-40 R&B), with touches of drum & bass and trip-hop. There's also not much in the way of embarrassing wiggaisms; no weak braggadocio raps, or paeans to marijuana delivered in faux-Jamaican accents (as there was on the first CD).
