Was the infamous Nazi "Sieg Heil" salute inspired by American football cheerleaders? A declassified CIA (surely they mean OSS) profile of Hitler, written in 1942, suggests so. It also reminds me of something I once heard, that in the US before World War 2, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance (as in schools and scout troops) involved holding one arm outstretched, Nazi-fashion, which was changed for obvious reasons after the war.
