The school was trying to keep her from being beaten up by her fellow students. It sounds more controversial the way the "indy media" has written it. All media manipulates and the truth is scarce.

Though that itself sets a dangerous precedent. I.e., by that token, one could justify putting dissidents into "protective custody" to keep them safe from all the rednecks around.

Though I wouldn't trust Indymedia. The Melbourne one is about on the same level of clear-headed objectivity as Socialist Worker or one of those Trotskyite papers. (The Melbourne group is apparently comprised of dogmatic Marxists who censor anything that goes against their ideological belief system.)
