Some good news for a change: the Australian senate has rejected the government's surveillance bill, which would have allowed government agencies to intercept electronic messages (such as email, voice mail and SMS) without a warrant.
Don't rejoice too much though, as the government has promised to reintroduce the rejected amendment.
