Johnny Cash covers Depeche Mode; it sounds plausible enough too. He also covers one of the gothfather's little ditties (about self-mutilation or something like that); wonder how long until he does the Sisters of Mercy or Gary Numan. (via Cos)

Well, the Man In Black, y'know... though he has said he wears black for a markedly different reason than goths.

I was particularly amused by the reviewer's writing "coupe de gras." It doesn't quite square with his describing the "Hurt" cover as "stripped down," however. (I'm sure he means "coup de grace," but the phrase he used makes one think of a roadster constructed entirely of fattened goose liver.)

This reminds me of another Depeche Mode/country music collision - have you heard Tlot Tlot's yee-ha cover of 'Just can't get enough' (I think it's on their 'Pistolbuttsa'twinkle' CD)? Stanley almost yodels on it.

Nope... actually, I just checked, and it's off their 'Fashion Takes a Holiday' CD which, as it so happens, also features a cover of Cash's 'Don't Take Your Guns To Town'. The circle is complete. Go figure.

Well, the awesome country(ish) band Lambchop have already done a cover of The Sisters of Mercy's "This Corrosion". If you've heard it, you'll know that Cash or at least 'his advisors' are kicking themselves that they didn't get there first.

Well, there's always Bela Lugosi's Dead, or Temple Of Love. Or NIN's Closer for that matter. (Actually, some Australian outfit did a rather amusing banjo-pickin' cover of that one a few years back.)

I wonder when country and electroclash will collide.
