25 June 2009 in famous deaths

And bound for Valhalla today: gonzo music journalist Steven Wells (who wrote for the NME back when it was more interesting), actress Farrah Fawcett (who was most famous in the 1970s) and fairytale prince and self-styled "King of Pop" Michael Jackson.

RIP Steven Wells and Farrah Fawcett. You will be missed.

It must suck to go out the way Farrah Fawcett did. Firstly, of all the body parts to get cancer in, and secondly, of all the times to die.

I was stuck in a waiting room all morning, forced to endure channel 7's Morning Show coverage (which was worth a whole episode of Mediawatch itself). A lot of it was shots from a helicopter above the paparazzi frenzy at UCLA Medical Centre. At one point they noted that a lot of the reporters present had already gathered earlier that day at the nearby hospital where Fawcett had died, and then raced over to UCLA when news of Jackson's death broke. Imagine Fawcett's family and friends, watching the reporters rush away from their grief because a more famous person died. That must be the ultimate "celebrity experience".
