This morning, on
3RRR,
the announcers mentioned the trend of product placement in music videos.
In particular, the videos of a number of artists on Sony's labels have
been conspicuously showcasing Sony products. One, Bomfunk MCs' "Freestyler",
shows a Matrix-style fantasy of controlling reality through a Sony
MiniDisc recorder. Another video, for Sony's Britney-clone Mandy Moore,
also features lots of Sony products. Wonder whether this is just a Sony
thing, or whether one would find a similar preponderance of Absolut bottles
in Universal videos or Philips products in old PolyGram videos.
