There's also a very good book about the Museum of Jurassic Technology by a New
Yorker writer, Lawrence Wechsler: Mr. Wilson's Cabinet of Wonders. Indeed, the
museum is a put-on, but a put on of a very sophisticated sort. Some of the
exhibits are quite factual, others are completely made-up, others are are
intriguing mixture of fact and well-researched, completely straight-faced,
pedantic leg-pulling.
The letter you quote from the MJT website is part of a collection of letters
that kooks wrote to Mt.Wilson observatory, most of them before WW II.
Typically, MJT presents them in a straightforward manner, as if they are
science.
What is the museum all about? It's hard to say in a few words. Go to the
museum or read the book.
