Apparently, if you take a length of static or traffic noise or whatever,
going for 3 or so minutes, loop it and play it back, the listener's mind
will recognise patterns, as if the motif of a melody, and eventually the
sound will stick in the listener's mind like a melody.

Or so I read somewhere.
