Mr. Porter
No, this is not a leg-pull but a perfectly serious enquiry from an English
writer researching a novel.
A few years ago I heard (part of) a documentary programme on UK Radio 4
(the serious channel) which described the truly bizarre activities of a
religious sect in (North?) Germany, I think in the eighteenth century. As
best I can recall it, their credo and rituals were based heavily on cream
cheese (really). Even less credibly but clear in my recollection, one
ritual required a newly bereaved spouse (either sex I think) to cut off an
arm with a chain saw. Exactly why was either not revealed or I have
forgotten. A Web search (WebFerret) threw up your remarkable site and
prompts me to ask whether you have come across what must surely be one of
the weirdest cults in history.
And if you haven't, it's a strong candidate for your list of `things I
must have a look at one day'.
If you can't help, thanks anyway for your efforts with the page.
