Let's restate it, then. Here's a man who certainly seems to be
intelligent and who makes two statements in the same talk:

(1) He can tell the difference between invented writing and alien
writing based on certain inherent characteristics alone.

(2) He cannot tell the difference between the two unless he knows
the complete history of the author.

To me, the ability of an intelligent person to hold self-contradictory
opinions in support of a favored theory is the mark of a True Believer.

What do you call it?
