Check the Oxford English
Dictionary for "daddy longlegs", for a modest surprise.
-The Collins has it as the harvestman in the US and Canada. The (British) bloke
last night called them daddy long legs and he has spent the last 20 yrs studying
them. I'm from Scotland, and we even have school rhymes about them. I don't
think this difference has a global resolution.
