And let's not forget what that theory has become today: the central tenet
of white supremacist (sp?) Identity churches like Pastor Pete Peters'
America's Promise Ministries (http://www.identity.org). The theory was,
at the start, rather innocuous though patronising...the Jews were seen as
sort of younger brothers in need of British guidance. Now, though, Jews
are viewed by Identity believers as literal descendants of Satan (that
wasn't an apple that the snake gave Eve...). Identity churches are pretty
big in the Pacific Northwest in North America -- Idaho, Colorado, Oregon,
Washington, and I understand there's a couple in British Columbia and
Alberta. There's a book that details the change in the theory; I can look
up the title if anyone wants.

And speaking of Pete Peters...A few years ago I taped one of his shortwave
sermons. He was speaking about "the feminization of the American male"
through dairy products. And the weird thing is that he was bringing up
the same health concerns (valid ones, from what I hear) about cis- versus
trans-fatty acids in margarine and other vegetable oil products that I had
read in _High Times_ (a magazine dedicated to the appreciation of
marijuana, in case anyone doesn't know) a few years before. Best moment:
"...And of course, you know why they call it *HOMO* milk, don't you?"

Thanks for the Texe summary that started all this, BTW...a mail strike in
Canada at the moment means that I'm missing one of my favourite bits of
weirdness-by-mail.

I am now blessing your subscription to _Flashpoint_...
